Benefits of alcohol-free sunscreen on your skin.

KINESYS ALCOHOL FREE SUNSCREEN

A big part of our mission at KINeSYS is empowering people with the knowledge to stay protected while living an active outdoor lifestyle. We’ve spoken about the benefits of using an oil-free sunscreenthe difference between SPF 30 and SPF 50 and why the PH level of your skincare products matter; and in this SPF blog we share some facts about the practice of using alcohol in sunscreens.

The immediate thought that usually comes to mind when you see alcohol on an ingredient list is “ whoa, not good”, but not all alcohols are bad. So let's get into some details, and see what alcohols appear on the KINeSYS ingredient list.

The Good, The Bad and KINeSYS

The Good

While most alcohol ingredients are not great for your skin, there are some alcohols used in sunscreen, and other skin care products, which are actually good for your skin.

Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Cetearyl alcohol and retinol (Vitamin A), are nourishing and exceptionally beneficial for the skin. These alcohols are often thick oils or solid fats, derived from organic sources.

The Bad

Some alcohols can have potentially harmful effects; ethanol, denatured alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, methanol, benzyl alcohol, etc. These are the ones that should be used with caution in personal care products, including sunscreen.

These volatile alcohols are known to give a quick-drying finish making products feel lighter, an aspect that appeals to many individuals with oily skin. However, they can disturb the skin's natural acid mantle, causing dryness and/or irritation.

Alcohol can also stimulate oil production, as the immediate de-greasing effect is eventually counteracted by the overproduction of oil that causes clogging of pores. This is why some people react to sunscreens with symptoms like acne and/or red and inflamed skin.

Those who struggle with acne breakouts should avoid sunscreens that potentially contain harmful alcohols.

Alcohols and KINeSYS

The KINeSYS spray sunscreen range is unique, unlike most aerosol sunscreens we don’t include any of the harmful alcohols in our ingredients. Without volatile alcohols, our Spray Sunscreens need to dry naturally, but we think a minute or two is worth the wait.

Our KINeSYS non-aerosol pump spray sunscreens are enriched with Tocopherol (Vitamin E), which is an effective antioxidant that protects the skin from environmental pollution and prevents moisture loss, thereby increasing the natural moisture content of the skin.

KINeSYS Sunscreens are also non-comedogenic, which is a fancy way of saying our ingredients will not block your pores.

Our products allow those with acne-prone and/or oily skin to stay protected from the sun without compromising sensitive skin.

We’ve dedicated years to developing sunscreens that offer the best protection, because the people in our community are at the heart of what we do. That includes busy parents, sporty types, skin cancer survivors… and those with sensitive skin.
