Alcohol Free Sunscreen
The Good, The Bad and The Beautiful
Let's start with the good alcohols.
While most alcohol ingredients are not great for your skin, there are some alcohols used in sunscreen (and other skin care products) which are actually good for your skin.
Like tocopherol (Vitamin E), Cetearyl alcohol and retinol (Vitamin A). They are nourishing and exceptionally beneficial for the skin and these alcohols are often thick oils or solid fats, derived from organic sources. Psst: we made sure we included Vitamin E in ours. More on that soon.
Onto the bad alcohols.
Some alcohols can have potentially harmful effects, e.g. ethanol, denatured alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, methanol, benzyl alcohol, etc. These volatile alcohols are known to give a quick-drying finish making products feel lighter, an aspect that appeals to many individuals with oily skin. They, however, can disturb the skin's natural acid mantle, causing dryness and/or irritation.
These are the ones that are and should be used with caution in personal care products including sunscreen. (Safe to say, we left these ones out).
Do you find some sunscreen causes breakouts with your skin?
Alcohol can stimulate oil production as the immediate de-greasing effect is eventually counteracted by the overproduction of oil that causes clogging of pores. This is why some people can find they react to some sunscreens with things like acne and/or red and inflamed skin.
The Beautiful (if we don't mind saying so ourselves).
Our KINeSYS non-aerosol (because aerosol sunscreens usually use alcohols), pump spray sunscreens are enriched with Tocopherol (Vitamin E), an effective antioxidant that protects the skin from environmental pollution and prevents moisture loss, thereby increasing the natural moisture content of the skin. (Pretty great huh!?)

The lightweight formula absorbs into the skin quickly and won't clog your pores or leave any of that embarrassing chalky cast.
Best Sunscreen for Acne
The best sunscreen for acne-prone skin is one labelled 'non-comedogenic' (which is a big fancy word which means that they do NOT block pores). KINeSYS Sunscreens are non-comedogenic making it the ideal sunscreen for acne-prone and oily skin.
Acne-prone and/or oily skin still needs a daily application of sunscreen to protect us from the sun's harmful UV rays. It can be tempting to use alcohol-based sun-screen for its immediate matte finish that essentially helps in de-greasing the oil slick.
People with acne should, however, be wary of sunscreen that contains alcohol, because these can strip your skin of its natural oils leading to accelerated oil production and pore blockage.
Choosing from our range of alcohol-free sunscreens, with and without a fragrance, in SPF 30 and SPF 50 Broad Spectrum protection. The KINeSYS scented sunscreen range includes SPF 30 Mango Spray Sunscreen and SPF 30 Vanilla-Green Tea.
